CHAPTER 329: Reviewing UFC 101

Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

The fight. The strikes. The knockout. And then Forrest running away from the cage after the fight ended. All in the first round.

My Fight Rating: 4 ½ stars out of 5

BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian

BJ was superior in every round. He was the aggressor and did the damaging from time to time.
It was difficult looking at Florian’s perspective. He didn’t want to engage in the striking battle, and what I don’t understand is that he kept going for takedowns and enter in a clinch duel with BJ, but always unsuccessful at those. It seemed like Kenny was trying to do the same thing that GSP did to BJ back at UFC 94, but obviously Kenny is no GSP, and BJ was embarrassing him. One of the embarrassing moments was when Kenny did a Superman punch only to get countered-punch back by BJ (!).
Kenny Florian lost the fight in the 4th round once BJ himself scored a takedown (when ironically that was what Florian attempted to do throughout the fight).
Florian’s mistake in trying to bring down BJ ended with he himself being taken down.
BJ then proceeded by controlling Florian then pulling out the rear naked choke for the win.
BJ’s dominance adds to my fight rating.

My Fight Rating: 4 stars out of 5
