CHAPTER 245: Predicting K-1 Fields Dynamite!! 2008

" Tomorrow, my opponent will face his worst nightmare -- reality! " - Bobb Sapp

Bobb Sapp vs “Mantaro” Tanako

The ‘freakshow’ of the event.
I haven’t got no idea though on how this fight is going to turn out.
‘Mantaro’ is going to fight for the first time………but I’m gonna pick for a Bob Sapp victory here, he’s just way bigger than the cartoon character.

My Predicted Victor: Bobb Sapp

Mighty Mo vs Semmy Schilt

Going for Schilt to use his reach advantage and strikes to defeat Mighty Mo.

My Predicted Victor: Semmy Schilt

Hayato Sakurai vs Katsuyori Shibata

I’m unsure regarding this fight, but I am going for the ‘old timer’ to a hard fought win.

My Predicted Victor: Hayato Sakurai

Kawajiri vs Takeda

Taking on Kawajiri to pull out a win.

My Predicted Victor: Kawajiri

Alistair Overeem vs Badr Hari

One of the fights to look out for this event, considering the trash talk and bad blood lingering between the two fighters.
In a K-1 only rules match, one would consider that the advantage would be on Hari, plus he’s the taller and got the more reach. Still, it will be interesting to see how Overeem will do in this fight, as he’s seem to be putting on a lot of weight for this fight.

My Predicted Victor: Badr Hari

Mirko Filipovich vs Hong Man Choi

As a CroCop fan, I would want nothing but a victory for the Croatian. But even though Hong Man Choi might not be seen as a top of the pile contender, with his size it would be a dangerous and problematic fight (physical wise and strategy wise) for any fighter with any skill set to rely upon.
The problem with CroCop here is that the obvious gameplan has for him to utilize strikes (leg kicks) as that’s his A game, but Filipovich lately haven’t been great, and there’s always the lingering question of whether he can pull it off (and furthermore against an opponent like Hong Man Choi).
I do hope that CroCop can make the win.

My Predicted Victor: Mirko Filipovich

Musashi vs Gegard Mousasi

Just as with the Kawajiri fight, I’m predicting for a Mousasi victory here.

My Predicted Victor: Gegard Mousasi

Jerome LeBanner vs Mark Hunt

Another fight I’m looking forward too, I think LeBanner could overpower Mark Hunt with strikes. Hunt would be the more experienced MMA competitor, but I think that Hunt would not be engaging on a ground or grappling war, and utilize his kickboxing as well as he himself have been competing in K-1, thus going head on against LeBanner with what his best in.

My Predicted Victor: Jerome LeBanner

JZ Galvacante vs Joachim Hansen

I think this duel could have the elements of a fight of the night for this event.
I just hope that it will be an all out war.
Predicting for a Hansen TKO victory.

My Predicted Victor: Joachim Hansen

Eddie Alvarez vs Shinya Aoki

Aahhh, the what should have been the final of DREAM’s lightweight GP.
Another interesting matchup. Alvarez with the wrestling and power and Aoki with the crazy-slick grappling prowess.
If Aoki ever gets hold on Alvarez, then it could be real trouble for Alvarez, and obviously Aoki can control the fight from then on and submit Alvarez.
Though I think that Alvarez should be fast and the more athletic fighter to hold off attempts from Aoki, and score some combos of strike and a potential powerful hook or cross could perhaps dropped Aoki.
I think that this fight could have the same outcome just like the actual DREAM lightweight final, though both fighters’ strengths and capabilities certainly make this fight could swing either way.

My Predicted Victor: Eddie Alvarez

Kazushi Sakuraba vs Tamura

Sakuraba has been in a lot of fights, but obviously he’s on the declining stage. Even though he’s a legend for the sport, I feel that Saku is just old (he’s been getting ‘too old’ already) to win necessary points and am expecting a victory from Tamura.

My Predicted Victor: Tamura
