CHAPTER 13: Up close & personal....with Abdullah Badawi

"The eyes are the window of the soul" - Anonymous

As waiting for Friday prayer to commence, the prime minister of the country arrived at the praying hall compound, flacked by an entourage of 15 men, and additionally flacked by several of the mosques officials. Around 8 or 9 of them looked like his bodyguards, they were wearing almost the same style of clothes. Black coloured, trousers and the sort of shirts that a Yang Berhormat menteri usually wears when going public. Badawi on the other hand wore a full set of some sort of pale & light chocolate coloured Baju Melayu, full set with a kain sampin and the traditional songkok that accompanies the dress of baju Melayu. They all entered the praying hall through the entrance that the imams always used (the one not accessible by the public). As he began to pray the Solat Sunat Jumaat, I could see that the mosques officials prayed alongside him, and his entourage when into positions behind him (scaterred) to perform their own prayers. There were 2 or 3 of 'em that prayed outside the praying hall though.
When the Friday prayers finished, and and the public dispersed and when went their own ways, so did Badawi and his men (through the imams' route of course). Of course, when the PM were out of the hall there were already around 40-60 people already queing up to meet and shake his hand ,salam (there were not a lot of people anyway on that day, not in a full to the max full). At that point, I finished my part of praying, and decided to get closer to where the PM was. As the people were shaking his hands, heck, there were even like 2 foreigners (who look like they were from Kazakhstan or Nepal or from those kind of countries) that even took pictures with Badawi (by handphone). Everyone around was smiling away.....except for few people (the bodyguards).
Before this, I don't think I ever saw Badawi in real life before. I only saw his face on TV, newspapers...the media. And this I believe was the first, somemore at Masjid Negara (some recognizable faces I've seen at the national mosque from before are dato' Najib, dato' Hishamuddin Hussein, Najib's brother - the one who married that TV3 presenter, Munir Majid, Mustapha Ma Qi, and Tun Mahathir).
Anyway, I didn't even think of shaking hands with the PM. Just stayed back behind the people and just observed the situation and surrounding at that time, just like some other men were doing. Maybe the title of today's post might not be coherent with what I'm stating, but I don't know how else to make it sound catchy (I'm not a creative writer, don't punish me).

One thing that I would say about Badawi, he has a fat belly. He doesn't look like an excellently fit man, not unlike the western leaders (the ones where if you see them standing up and talk, they do so with standing tall and strong). Of course, the PM is not that of a big man anyway (but I'm not disrepecting him or his appearence in any way).
On another note, and this is my own, personal opinion, is that Badawi doesn't strike me as a man who's got that 'power' or 'awesome' or '...' (I don't know any suitable words, my vocabulary power is bad) .... aura. What I'm trying to say is that,...... okay, he's the PM, he's surrounded by bodyguards, everybody knows him, want to meet him, greet him, say thank you ....and the such. Even if he's alone, he still get those kind of attention as stated previously. But if you picture him alone (when no groups are with him),.....he isn't the kind of man that when you see him, and if you have no idea who the hell he is, you wouldn't say that he looks special. I mean, if you didn't know him at all, and if you saw him, you wouldn't say and have an expression like ..."wuooo, who is that man? He looks like somebody powerful...".
You get what I meant? (it's hard to describe it in words, I don't know how to say my point in fluent and cohesive manner)
What I think is that in life, there are two types of people. Those who 'you don't notice' and those who 'you notice'. For me, Badawi is in the 'you don't notice' group. I'm not implying that by the word 'notice' that he's not a recognizable person at all (he is, because of who he is), what I'm trying to say is that if he was a normal person walking past by you, you would catch a glimpse of him but you won't give much care or attention. He's not the kind of guy that if he walks past you, you would stand up and observe him for more than several seconds cause he got that 'aura' that makes you notice him.
But I'm not saying that kind of noticibilty because of beauty, no, no, not that kind of that stuff like "fuoohhh, who is that guy/chick?!!!". Nope, not in that sense. I'm saying the kind of special 'aura' that makes you respect him................arghh, hard for me to say, damn it. Anyhow, I've made my point. (and it's stricly mine, not to ridicule the PM ok? Just an opinion on a person)

In a different matter, during the Fiday prayers, there was a man, don't know who, who suddenly sort of shrieked like as if he got a heart attack, and during the entire praying session he was weeping. Yes, weeping.
I don't who the guy was, and as soon as the prayers finished, I could see some heads turning left and right to see who was the culprit. Don't know who man. But it was disturbing to the men praying. Making lost of focussed to the other Muslim brothers. We are devoting the time to God and suddenly you got some guy making this sort of commotion. Of course, nobody knows exactly who or what the man's problem was. When he first shrieked, I really thought that somebody suffered a heart attack. But as he went on weeping and weeping and weeping and weeping and........and I was like "alahhhhhh.......tak dapat nak fokus, tak khusyuk,". Tak guna betul. My father also shared the same opinion as me on the matter.
On a another different note, as on the way home, I saw an all black Nissan Skyline.
