CHAPTER 321: Reviewing UFC 99

Marcus Davis vs Dan Hardy

Dan Hardy punished Marcus Davis more than Davis punished Hardy. Hardy displayed the better striking and standup.
Marcus Davis I think showed better takedowns and controlled Hardy against the cage and also when he was on top of the Brit.
I would say Davis showed he had a great chin too.

My Fight Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Spencer Fisher vs Caol Uno

Fisher edged out on boxing, but couldn’t really punish Uno. He battled well throughout the fight against being taken down by the Japanese.
Caol Uno on the other hand kept going for the takedowns, and he was relentless in the pursuit of getting the fight to the ground, but perhaps he was too relentless that he did not mix up enough to win the fight on other means considering Fisher always seemed to negate his takedown attempts.

My Fight Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 5

Mike Swick vs Ben Saunders

Swick’s finishing adds to the fight rating.
How Saunders let Swick the opportunity in which Swick got that fast and furious pounding in finishing Saunders is the question that needs to be answered.

My Fight Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 5

Mirko Filipovic vs Mostapha Al-Turk

Prior to the ‘accidental’ eye poke, I believe CroCop was confidently winning the fight. CroCop did swing under Turk’s overhand which he proceeded to pound away at Turk.

My Fight Rating: 3 stars out of 5

Cain Velasquez vs Cheick Kongo

I thought this fight was going to be short and one was going to end up knocked out. Man I was wrong!
I didn’t really think it was a great fight, I felt it was more of a slugfest of either fighter ‘struggling’ to beat the other fighter.
A thing to note from this duel is Cain’s chin.
Cain just dominated the wrestling and ground control aspect. Kongo couldn’t do much but just held on until the final minutes of the fight.

My Fight Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 5

Rich Franklin vs Wanderlei Silva

Seemed to everybody that this was a close fight.
Some strongly believed that Silva won this.
I’m not gonna say much on Franklin’s performance, but I do want to touch on Silva’s.
Why is that since entering the UFC Silva seems to fight more like a boxer instead of the aggressive no holds barred Muay Thai fighter he was back in PRIDE? I do like to see that aspect back in Silva’s game.
Now that he lost again, it’s going to be an even tougher ladder for Silva to climb in the UFC’s LHW division.
But I’m sure he’ll still be around. Wanderlei Silva I believe will always be an asset for the organization.
As for Franklin, well, I’m not really sure as to what his plans will be now. He lost to Henderson back in January and now scores a victory against Silva. I think if he keeps on winning 2 to three more fights then he could be in the title picture for the 205 division if he stays in that division.

My Fight Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 5
