CHAPTER 243: Predicting UFC 92

“ Wanderlei is not the golden boy anymore. ”Quinton Jackson
“ …I don’t like him. ”Wanderlei Silva

I believe as with almost everybody else going to watch this event, I’m looking forward most to these 3 fights: Jackson-Silva, Nogueira-Mir and Griffin-Evans. These fights, probably lot of people are banking on Silva, Big Nog and Griffin winning. But the funny thing that can happen is if their opponents beat them, it would really be the upsets. Nonetheless looking forward to a great event form the UFC’s closing event for this year.

Cheick Kongo vs Mustapha Al-Turk

Al-Turk will make his UFC debut. Kongo on the other hand has been on a good roll, winning most of his recent fights (one of the heavyweights that is making progression on getting a title shot).
This is a fight between a striker and a fighter whose strengths are in wrestling and grappling. I’m not sure who to choose for winning the fight, but I’m going to have a go and pick on Al-Turk for getting an upset win. Al-Turk has already been fighting at Cage Rage (in a cage environment) thus I think that he would not be fazed by fighting in the octagon and under UFC rules. If he could bring Kongo down then he could get a chance to win. Kongo however does have the striking edge I believe, and if he keeps the fight as a striking contest, then he would have the edge. But as I stated before, picking Al-Turk for a surprising win.

My Predicted Victor: Mustapha Al-Turk

CB Dolloway vs Massenzio

Not sure who to choose, seems two fighters bringing in the same kind of resume into the fight (with wrestling pedigree among their skillsets). Head says Dolloway for the win (as some of the consensus belive in, and adding that Dolloway have been putting in submissions win), but I’m just gonna have another random predicting in choosing his opponent Massenzio for emerging the victor. I also like to add that either way, this fight would most likely end up by submission. But what I’m unsure off is if Dolloway could make another Peruvian Necktie though.

My Predicted Victor:
Massenzio Quinton

Jackson vs Wanderlei Silva

(Rampage’s Revenge & Redemption?)

Ohhhh yes!
The Jackson – Silva feud is going to enter the third phase! This is perhaps the fight I’m looking to most out of the three main fights of UFC 92, and I’m sure lot of people would fancy the same as well.
I really hope this is going to be an all out war just like Silva’s fight with Chuck Liddell last year. And considering all the circumstances regarding this fight (the fighters skill, power, strengths and capability as well as their history back over when they were in PRIDE) it certainly could go that way, and it is my wish and hope that the fight would be a lasting war! Always love seeing a great fight, and this one has it to be such! There are many plausible factors regarding this fight, but I think that who ever ends up victorious, a big factor would be the preparation and the fighting camp the fighter has been involved in.
Definitely the one who has pressure more than the other fighter is Jackson. He lost his last fight (in a poor manner compared to his own potential and strengths), then there was his personal problems of breaking down, getting caught with the law and the cops, his mental issues, then Juanito Ibarra’s ‘betrayal’, and lest we forget, his previous (violent) losses to Silva back in PRIDE……..things are not in favor for Jackson (similar as in just as it is with Mir against Noguiera).

But sports are always not predictable, and things are always uncertain, no matter what the odds are. However, I’ll be dammed (and sure a lot of other people would also be), if this fight turned up into a boring, grappling snoozefest (which I’m sure a lot of people as well as I wouldn’t really expect to happen, considering the fighters that Jackson and Silva are).
I’m calling for Rampage for an upset victory in this fight.
But once again, as I’ve written above, wishing to see first and foremost, a great fight. Bring the war on!

My Predicted Victor:
Quinton Jackson

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Frank Mir

(Nogueira’s Destiny?)

The battle of the top submission fighters of the heavyweight division is another enticing affair, especially for the grappling enthusiasts.

As with those many predictions, this is a fight that is heavily favored and leaning for a Nogueira victory. The Brazilian has been the more decorated fighter between the two, and also being among the best in the world when it comes to heavyweight discussion.
And let’s not forget Big Nog’s heart and durability, that can be a big factor coming into this fight. Just like Rampage, not many things and people are betting for a Mir win, an unlike Rampaga, a lot of people have the belief and analysis that it is even harder for Mir to win against Nogueira than it is compared to Rampage winning against Wanderlei Silva.
Thus said, I’ll have to say that if Mir can pull off an upset, then this would be the biggest upset between UFC 92’s three main fights (and perhaps the upset for the entire event,…and also an upset on an MMA scale as well).

I don’t think a lot of people are going to be surprised if the fight ends up by a submission, since both have strong BJJ pedigree (Nogueira by triangle, and I guess if Mir would win it could be by an arm bar).

My Predicted Victor: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Forrest Griffin vs Rashad Evans

(Rashad, the Heavier Hands?)

I’m picking for another upset here, with Rashad winning.

They both have their respective strengths, but another factor I would like to say is that both fighters are training in good fighting camps (and training partners). Griffin with Xtreme Couture, and Evans with Greg’s Jackson team. That would be a huge factor, the preparation wise and all related.
Griffin might be the bigger fighter with crucial reach advantage, and I think Rashad could have a difficulty in this aspect. Though in the other perspective, Griffin could have problem against Rashad as Rashad would probably be faster, especially in terms of being evasive and also in dancing away and showboating. But as I wrote above, I think Rashad has the heavier hands than Griffin, and it could be a decisive aspect. That being said, I think that out of the three main fights of UFC 92, this perhaps could be the most ‘boring’ fight. I could see that the previous two ‘main’ fights could end up before their full entire rounds, for this fight however I could see it going all the way to a decision. Last thing to say, even though one of them will end up victorius and the other defeated, I believe that the winner here (apart from whomever becomes the LHW champ) will be the UFC and The Ultimate Fighter, and also America. Both fighters are products of The Ultimate Fighter, both are fighting and making their careers with the UFC, and both are Americans. It’s probably going to be a testament that the pro UFC people and supporters going to make considering that it’s everything UFC that’s battling out for the belt of arguably perhaps the most stacked division out of the entire UFC roster, and that America is where the place to be at for MMA’s best.

My Predicted Victor:
Rashad Evans

Dean Lister vs Yushin Okami

Wondering why this fight was not selected to be on the main card. Maybe because of the stigma that Okami has in fighting ‘boring’ fights.
I’m going to go with the Japanese to win, and he’s among the potential fighters that perhaps could challenge Anderson Silva.

My Predicted Victor:
Yushin Okami
