The Wandering PEGASUS: CHAPTER 224: Predicting UFC 91

Several hours to go before UFC 91 commences. Below are my predictions for the fights I’m looking forward to very much.
Here goes.

(1) Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar
Couture returns,….. yet it could be his last……..
Once again, Couture is seen as an underdog (simply given the fact that his opponent is a physical specimen unlike any he has faced before, and also adding Couture’s own factors like age and a long fighting layoff…….just rewriting what so many others have made their points regarding this fight), but yet again…….
the case with Randy Couture is that you can’t count him out at any chance.

This is difficult to predict.
Perhaps if Couture was 5 years younger I would have given the edge to Couture.
But he’s already going on 50, and God knows how he’ll be able to keep up, especially withstanding the fact that Brock Lesnar definitely has physical prowess.
Nonetheless, I will pick on Couture.
However, I think that if Brock Lesnar have improved drastically, leap and bounds in all facets of MMA’s important skills, then he would have a big chance in defeating Couture.
There is also the factor that Couture had already lost to fighters bigger than him in Ricco Rodriguez and Josh Barnett from his earlier HW days, and this time around he’s fighting another huge guy.

Predicted Winner: Randy Couture

(2) Joe Stevenson vs Kenny Florian
Interesting matchup between TUF2’s winner and the original TUF runners-up.
And both having a strong BJJ background.
Although Joe is seen as the stronger fighter whereas Florian is seen as the one with more gas and cardio.
I’m picking Florian to win, as I think that he has the more Muay Thai/striking power.
I think that Florian would pick Joe apart throughout a 3 rounds affair, and would cut open Joe Daddy just like he was cut open brutally by BJ Penn.

Predicted Winner: Kenny Florian

(3) Gabriel Gonzaga vs Josh Hendricks
Head says Gonzaga for the win, but I’m just going to have a random prediction in that Hendricks for being the victor in this fight.

Predicted Winner: Josh Hendricks

(4) Demian Maia vs Nate Quarry
I’m gonna go for Maia in winning this fight.
Much had been said and wrote that Quarry would not stand much chance should the fight ever hit the ground. Thus said I think that Maia should have worked extensively on his standup, and I believe he would wither the storm from Quarry.
Maia already won against a tough fighter against Jason McDonald, and it’s just my hunch that Maia would win again.

Predicted Winner: Demian Maia
