" Great trilogies come in threes. "

I recently watched the Transformers movie, and the ending of the movie got me pondering, is it the start of another film trilogy? (……Transformers trilogy…..)…….
Looking at Hollywood nowadays, it seems like the productions are now cashing on in making trilogies for blockbuster movies.
I’m not sure, whether this trend of trilogies spurned from the LOTR trilogy (even though LOTR was already a trilogy of novels). Just look at some popular Hollywood trilogies that have come out in the past years: the Matrix trilogy; Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy; the Mission Impossible movies; Spiderman; The Terminator franchise had 3 movies already; George Clooney, Brad Pitt and gang are coming out with the third Ocean’s Eleven movie; even Banderas had his third Desperado some time before (can’t remember the title, but what I remembered was Johnny Deep was in it, and of course Salma Hayek) and the Star Wars prequels. Hell, even that football/soccer movie Goal! will be a frikin’ trilogy.
Of course, the trilogy concept was already there before (Star Wars, Indiana Jones’s adventures and the Godfather series), but I got this feeling that this is the direction that Hollywood is heading into. Dunno, whether they no longer got the creative juice in making new films, or they’re really cashing in popularities of existing movies (and this sense I believe that people will be always interested in continuation of a popular movie, with the popular actors-actresses and continuation of the existing plots….).
But, asides from trilogies, there’s also another direction coming along, and that is that moving on more than a trilogy. Some it seems that (as along with a popular franchise), Hollywood is really intending on making more movies revolving around the same character or same plot-concepts. There’s news and rumours that next year we’ll be seeing the forth Indiana Jones film. Also, Bruce Willis is coming back in Die Hard 4, and even Sylvester Stallone is coming back in Rambo. Add to that, there are news-rumours stating that The Terminator is going to have a new trilogy to it. And of course, the never ending Harry Potter franchise (can somebody tell me what’s so special about Harry Potter? Never seen it, don’t think interested in it).
Hollywood (at this time) will always be the top of the movie industry in the world, considering that everyone watches Hollywood movies almost everywhere. And with them having the money, they are free to do what they want, in the movie landscape.

Potential trilogies
These are some films I think we will be seeing trilogies to their existing productions:
1) Lara Croft (there’s already two films, I think if the right opportunity comes, Angelina Jolie will be back in another installment)
2) Bridget Jones’s Diary (I’ve never seen the Bridget Jones films, but I thought that if there’s already two, who says they can’t be a third?)
3) Da Vinci Code/Robert Langdon (there’s rumours on the second Robert Langdon adventure (Angels and Demons). And considering that Dan Brown is writing the third Langdon novel, we may well see a trilogy of movies someday)
4) Fantastic Four ?
