CHAPTER 25: Racism in Spain & racism in Football

"I want to be the white man's brother, not his brother-in-law." - Martin Luther King

As we live on the planet, we know that we come across many, various people. We come across people from different background, different nationalities, different cultures, different etc. etc. And then they are those who are different than some of us. Different in the sense that these people are racists. The problem that is racism. Perhaps they are not racists, just that they are being racists deliberately. Or perhaps a case of both. Whatever it is, you can't deny that such kind exists on this planet.
Last night, towards the end of the match in La Romareda, as
Barça were about to take a corner near the 80th minute, the referee ran hurriedly towards the sideline, talking to someone (supposedly a staff of Zaragoza or the stadium). The ref (Esquinas Torres) was instructing something to him. At the same time, Eto'o stormed off off the pitch. He was walking out towards the dugout, angry.
In the end, things got back on track, and football resumed. Even though Eto'o managed to assist Larsson for the second goal, it didn't stop the racially abusive monkey grunts towards him from some section of the Zaragoza supporters. In fact, they grew louder especially after the incident.

This is all a disgusting manner in football. The fact is, some are just plain racists, whereas some are being racists just to heckle and disturb the away team players who happened to be black. There was a moment when Eto'o angrily vented out at those Zaragoza spectators, indicating that why was and had he need to be treated in such way when Zaragoza themselves had a black player, Alvaro who was guarding Eto'o and stood right next to him throughout the fuss.
It's all down right degrading. Not only does it bring bad name and image for Zaragoza (their club, players, and more importantly their fans who are not of those kind)or Spanish football, it also brings negative views to football in general. Racism in Spanish football is not new, one need to just look at two incidents that highlighted racsim problem there: the match between England and Spain in Madrid back in 2004 (where the England players like Cole, Wright-Phillips were subjected to the monkey chants and grunts) and before that the incident involving Spanish national team coach Luis Aragonés and Reyes where he told Reyes during training that he demanded him to be better than that black sh-t Henry at Arsenal.
It's all pathetic and absolutely disgraceful.
What with the showpiece of football launching in the summer, I hope all this racism stuff can dwelve down more so we can all enjoy football in a positive way. It's definetely and arguably a long road to eradicate racism out of football (and no doubt racism will, still be around), but surely steps must be taken by everyone to help clear this tarnished image of football worldwide.

Here's a clip that highlighted the incident in La Romereda last night:
